Are you a Project Manager?

The Project Manager role at cabedge is unique, and requires a specialized skill set. Project Managers are not only the primary point of contact with cabedge clients, but are also responsible for internal management of client expectations with the design and development team. So in addition to technical skills and acumen that comes from web-based/Internet experience, softer “people skills”, and marketing savvy are also essential.

Project Managers at cabedge use Basecamp as an online collaboration tool, both internally and externally, as well as proprietary Gantt-charting/resource allocation tool and development servers for file storage and asset management. Though the administration and “ownership” of these tools is largely the responsibility of Project Coordinators, Project Managers must master their use and ultimately be responsible for their accuracy. Knowledge of Gantt charts, resource allocation, timeline/milestone/deadline management, and strong time management skills are essential.

Experience with, exposure to, and the ability to discuss web-production tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, HTML/CSS, Flash, as well as development environments such as PHP, Ruby on Rails, .Net, Python and databases are highly desired. Knowledge of web usability and best practices desirable as well.

It’s our desire at cabedge that the evolution of the Project Manager’s role begins with project-centric responsibilities, and moves toward an account-centric role with multiple projects and revenue streams over time. In this respect, Project Managers must possess the ability to balance internal project tasks with client-facing communications and relationship-building skills. Experience in developing strategic and tactical objectives, translating objectives into actionable tasks, bridging the gap between technical and non-technical jargon, and managing client expectations are all paramount. We believe people do business with people, not companies. And we strive for raving fans of cabedge through honest, genuine, lasting business relationships with our clients. The vast majority of new business comes from referrals and existing clients. Project Managers are at the core of that success.

Core competencies of our ideal Project Manager are:

  • Experience with or understanding of web-based technologies, website design and development tools and languages, and web-based projects
  • Experience in using web-based tools such as Gantt charting, time management, file management, and word/spreadsheet software such as Word and Excel
  • Excellent time management skills with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to consistently coordinate project estimates and manage projects to complete on or under budget
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, both external and internal
  • Proven track record of developing client relationships, tied to revenue-generating successes
  • Works closely with Production Manager to assign resources and manage responsibilities
  • Ensures project documentation and adherence to processes are managed effectively and efficiency, including that of the Project Coordinator
  • Ability to balance client expectations with business goals and objectives
  • Continually seeks opportunities for new business/enhancements to current projects, with strong cost-value positioning to Client
  • Experience working in small, fast-paced, “open” and entrepreneurial environment highly desirable
  • Mac user (or Mac-literate) preferred

Experience requirements of our ideal Project Manager are:

  • College graduate with 3 to 5 years experience in marketing (primarily), communications, project management, or some combination of the three.
